The Big Huzzah!

Well, it has only taken me a week to recover and wade through the pictures, but here is an account of our Big Huzzah last weekend. The kids adored the event flags and the rock candy was sweet!

The boys, as children have for time immemorial, mostly made up their own games. Here they are "working" in the wood workers area.

We had an official ceremony with the Mayor of Tacoma, most of the Metro Parks staff and even Congressman Norm Dicks to open the two new museum buildings. This is our new gift shop & exhibit building. The construction was done by a Ukrainian construction team with jointed beams to match the construction of the original 1850 Granary building already on site. (You can also slightly see our HBC flag, and lots of graces & hoop rolling too!)

One of our new exhibits features a collection of Native American basketry. We also frequently offer hands-on demos of basket weaving for guests.

Our canoe now hangs above the new collections and conference building.

The talented Fort musicians taking a break after playing for a vigorous group of dancers...

The dancing led by our illustrious Apprentice Interpreters (who won a City of Destiny award for teenage volunteerism this year!).

We tried to picnic quietly in the shade by the buggy and then the boys were off again...

To their favorite place within the Fort walls; the Bastions, where they are Kings of all they see and all sorts of imagined dangers lurk around every corner...

The highly-qualified Fort staff tried to help me keep up with them...

And in the end, their exhuberance spent running up and down the ramps of the Factor's House, we retired to rest and reflect on the adventures of the day. We can't wait for Family Fun Night in July with 3 -legged races, sack races and a candy cannon!
