My mom did find me this lovely parasol for a steal in the back of an antique store a few weeks back:
According to the Parasol Queen and expert Marta Vincent, it is from the 1880s or 1890s. The frilly inside of the parasol indicates it is from the later Victorian period. The outer fabric is a beautiful black silk moire taffeta. Why can't I find fabric like that today?
Unfortunately, the silk is splitting in some places from age, but it is still a stunning piece for my collection. I love these old fashion pieces and I am so blessed to be in a family that collects and values antiques!
Once I get my sewing machine back from servicing, the project list includes:
An 1850's men's dress shirt
A shawl collar silk vest
Modern dresses for me (more to come in another post!)
Have a splendid December day!
