I created this coat for Nathan after drafting the pattern for his summer jacket. Don't be fooled by the color on the monitor (hubby has the camera set for photographing stars right now and I can't figure out how to change it :), it is actually a darkish gray wool with a black lining.
The dilemma is this; a lot of work and materials goes into making a jacket because of all the quilting (like these 1 " squares) and the fact that I use real sheep's wool for wadding. That makes a lovely, snuggly warm jacket, but kind of a bust when you can't go the event and the 3 year old will be sure to grow before next year's events. I'm not sure yet what to do with it...
The other thing I discovered while entering events into my Palm Pilot is that next year's (2010) living history season is quite a busy one, possibly including an Oregon trail event as well as a regional conference of AHLFAM along with our regular slate of events plus a couple extras. I'd like to squeeze in at least one Regency dance too. That means lots of new sewing in addition to all the fun. At least I'll have an excuse to buy fabric :).

Why can't he just wear it? Like, to the park or the grocery store? It's precious!
That's a great point...he should be out wearing it anywhere! It's precious.
My little Sophie-gal has about five period correct dresses I've made her (she's 3 and a half) and she wears them to school, to play in, whatever.
Plus, one day you might have some precious grandbabies to wear it.
I'd hang onto it in any case, just for that reason! All that work makes it an heirloom.
I would like you to squeeze a Regency dance in too. I would love to see you again :-) I love they coat, it's adorable.
I should just have him wear it. Sometimes I wonder if the lines look modern enough, but I don't think they have changed much on jackets!
